Strathpine siege: Lockdown in northern Brisbane, Exclusion zone in place
A man who caused a suburb to be placed into lockdown for nearly 15 hours is speaking with police after the tense standoff with armed officers ended.
Queensland Police have revoked an emergency declaration under the Public Safety and Preservation Act (PSPA) at 6.40pm at Strathpine on Tuesday.
Police were called to Strathpine home on Peter St shortly after 1.30am in relation to an alleged disturbance.
Upon arrival, police began negotiations with a man, who was in the residence alone.
An emergency situation was declared just after 4am, with boundaries encompassing Gertrude St, Peter St, Rowland St and Cavendish St causing neighbours to be barricaded in their homes for nearly 15 hours.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed a man was on Tuesday night assisting police with their inquiries.
Investigations are ongoing.
It is understood a woman managed to flee the scene sometime after 7am.
Specialist police officers were on stand-by outside the property as police continued to negotiate with the man throughout the day.
When police arrived at the home, they found the man alone and began negotiating with him to come out of the house.
They worked to get him out of the house for over two hours before they declared an emergency situation just after 4am.
Members of the public were advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone were asked to remain indoors until further notice.
Traffic diversions were also put in place.
Paramedics were on standby at the residence but no patients required assessment at this time.
