Perth, WA: Accused insider trader Cameron Waugh now interim CEO

Publish date: 2024-07-13

A Western Australian man has landed a job as the boss of a company, after being accused of insider trading.

Cameron Waugh was arrested in dramatic fashion on December 16 while attending a wedding at Bunker Bay, about 250km south of Perth.

The 35-year-old appeared in Perth’s Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where it was revealed he’s since been appointed the interim CEO of a company.

Mr Waugh has been charged with six counts of insider trading.

His lawyer, former Coalition minister and Attorney-General Christian Porter, filling in for Seamus Rafferty, applied to have Mr Waugh’s bail conditions relaxed to allow him to travel interstate.

He had to give seven days notice to travel, but that was eased to just 48 hours in Wednesday’s hearing, with the matter adjourned to a committal mention on January 24.

It wasn’t revealed in court which company Mr Waugh is now leading as interim CEO.

Despite the relaxed bail conditions, Mr Waugh is still prohibited from travelling overseas.
